Martin Lewis calls rise in energy prices 'catastrophic' and warns they may go up again in October

Martin Lewis will explore the full impact of the energy price cap increase on his TV programme, the Money Show Live, on Thursday night after a day of big announcements which will affect the finances of millions of households across the country.

Ofgem confirmed that energy bills will rise by £693 a year at the beginning of April, going up from £1,278 to £1,971 for the average user. The energy regulator also confirmed that for customers with pre-payment meters the price cap will go up by £708 to £2,017.

Soon after the announcement, Martin took to social media to respond to the price hike and also the financial support now being put forward by the UK Government to all devolved nations.
