Martin Lewis begs Dominic Raab to do more to help energy crisis

Martin Lewis grilled Dominic Raab on what the government is doing to help vulnerable people during the energy crisis.

The Money Saving Expert appeared on Good Morning Britain, as he joined regular host Susanna Reid today. It was a special episode, which offered a free-phone energy crisis helpline for the first time ever.

The programme showed a family struggling with the price increases, as they had two children who relied on electronic medical supplies. Following this, the show welcomed the Deputy Prime Minister, Dominic Raab, as Martin quizzed him on how the government planned to help those who were most vulnerable.

Martin claimed that people who relied on medical appliances such as oxygen, dialysis machines and electric wheelchairs are in 'panic and shock' in case they can't afford their electricity bills.

Mr Raab said he is doing what he can to help the most vulnerable people. He said: "The cost of living challenges are difficult for everyone but particularly for disabled families. The answer is amidst the £20 billion package - £22 billion now after the Spring Statement - we have certain things. If you have a long term disability, Personal Independent Payments allows you to take into account living costs."

He added that you can claim back some of the costs you get for electricity prices from the NHS. He also went on to add that the £150 council tax rebate letter has a special disability component.

However, Martin Lewis said it wasn't enough as he begged the politician to do more. The Deputy Prime Minister responded as he said: "I will take a look at how we can do more for the vulnerable people in society as we go through what is going to be a tough time."
