Consumer champion Martin Lewis may have been pulling his hair out lately as he struggled to help Brits tackle the hikes in energy prices, but he should be proud of the advice and campaigning that he has carried out during these tough economic times. His work has slashed the bill of one woman by more than a third.
The MoneySavingExpert website founder is constantly looking for ways to assist householders with their bills and made a request to energy suppliers after Prime Minister Liz Truss announced the Government's price guarantee. The price guarantee means a typical energy bill for an average household would be no more than £2,500. This doesn't mean your bill is capped at £2,500.
After receiving messages from some on fixed tariffs, who were worried they would lose out, Mr Lewis asked a number of big energy firms to make it so customers who end up on fixes at a higher rate than the price guarantee would be allowed to move to the firm's price guarantee tariff.

British Gas, Ovo (SSE), Octopus, EDF, E.on and Shell all agreed to this, according to Liverpool Echo, with customers able to do so until at least Tuesday, November 15. Now one woman, named Mavis, has written on the MoneySavingExpert website to share her financial success, which she says has saved her £1,300.
She said: "We locked in to a two-year fix at the end of August, which would have cost £3,600 a year. After your talks with suppliers, we waited to see what would happen.
Continuing, she said: "We've now been told we will be transferred to the price-capped tariff without any penalty. New annual cost: £2,300. Thank you." You can read more of Martin's advice regarding fixed energy tariffs here.
