Martin Lewis advice helps view secure £600 for free - how to bag the extra cash

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis helped a viewer secure £600 for free, after she followed his advice.

During his ITV programme, The Martin Lewis Money Show, the expert revealed this hack to getting free cash, using the Help To Save scheme. One viewer who claims Universal Credit ended up getting £600 in free money, thanks to this trick.

The viewer said: "I changed my electricity. My telephone, my broadband. I looked at all my outgoings and managed to make some savings. I have been paying £50 a month for two years - and my account showed £1,200."

This switch-up meant that the woman was given a lifeline windfall, as the fifty per cent Government bonus is paid on £1,200 - meaning she got £600 into her current account.

The viewer added: "It's amazing."

Martin spoke through all the latest guidance on Tuesday on savings accounts, ISAs, Lifetime ISAs and more. The expert said: "The top cash ISA is with Cynergy Bank at 2.85 per cent, but the top standard savings is at 2.92 per cent.

"Again, with Barclays, you have 4 per cent with a cash ISA, but the top standard savings account is way more at 4.33 per cent.

"After basic and higher tax, you're better in the cash ISA. Same with the two-year fix. So, on the money not being taxed anyway, put it in the top standard savings.

"But if you're earning enough interest - which you probably won't be, so we don't need one - just pop them in the top standards savings."
