Award-winning actors Martin Freeman and Mackenzie Crook will reunite to commemorate 25 years since The Office launched in the UK.
The award-winning British sitcom, created by comedians Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, debuted in 2001 and followed the lives of office workers at Slough paper merchant Wernham-Hogg.
The series is widely regarded as one of the most influential and acclaimed British comedies, hailed for its innovative “mockumentary” style, and led to multiple international adaptations.
The original series ran until 2003, with Gervais at the helm as office manager David Brent, while Freeman played bored salesman Tim Canterbury who was pursuing a relationship with receptionist Dawn Tinsley (Lucy Davis).
The hit BBC show also starred Crook as pedantic paper salesman Gareth Keenan, and featured appearances from stars including Sally Bretton, Ewen MacIntosh, Ralph Ineson and Joel Beckett.
To commemorate 25 years since the series had its UK debut, Freeman will reunite with his former co-star Crook after almost 15 years as they reminisce about their time working on the ground-breaking series.
The pair will feature in an upcoming special episode of BBC Two’s Remembers to celebrate the acclaimed British comedy, and will discuss its cultural impact and its long-lasting legacy.
Freeman and Crook will also voice their views on the Emmy-winning American version – which co-creators Gervais and Merchant were credited as executive producers on, having helped adapt the show for US audiences.
The US adaptation was wildly successful and aired for eight years, and consisted of a star-studded cast including Steve Carell, John Krasinski, and featured appearances from Will Ferrell and Catherine Tate.
Remember… The Office will also see the actors reflect on how it felt to be part of such a popular show during its peak, while sharing stories and anecdotes from their time on the hit comedy.
Freeman will recall how he originally auditioned for the role of Gareth Keenan, while Crook will discuss his character’s signature bowl cut look.
The pair will also both reminisce on working closely with award-winning comedians Gervais and Merchant.
Remember…The Office will be broadcast on July 8 at 10pm on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
