Martin Compston interrupts Vicky McClure's appearance on Lorraine and ignites Soccer Aid rivalry

Martin Compston appeared on Lorraine on Thursday morning to send a sweet message to Vicky McClure as she's set to release her first book.

The Greenock-born actor, 39, appeared on the ITV chat show to congratulate his Line of Duty co-star Vicky, 40, on her first children's book - as well as igniting some Soccer Aid rivalry. Martin, who is currently filming for his BBC travel show, said: "Hey Vic, how are you doing? Greetings from Norway.

"First off, let me just say a big TV happy birthday. The big 40, how did that happen? Congratulations on the book mate, I'm sure it's going to be amazing."

In a cheeky quip, he added: "I have to say not even a children's fiction writer could write a scenario where England the World 11 at this year's Soccer Aid.

"Canny wait to see you there pal, and hopefully see a few more of you."

Vicky, who previously described Martin and fellow Line of Duty co-star Adrian Dunbar as her family, is coaching the England squad for Soccer Aid 2023. The Trigger Point actress is joined by coaches Harry Redknapp, Stormzy and Emma Hayes with Jill Scott, Liam Payne, Paddy McGuiness, and Jermaine Defoe on her squad.

Martin is coaching alongside Robbie Keane for the rest of the world side, and his all-star team includes Usain Bolt, Tommy Fury, Lee Mack, Steven Bartlett, and more.

During her appearance on the ITV chat show, Vicky discussed her upcoming children's novel with Lorraine Kelly and reflected on her inspiration behind the book. The story of The Castle Rock Mystery Crew follows 10-year-old Jase, who is spending the summer holidays at the Castle Rock caravan park with his auntie and grandma, who has dementia.

The synopsis continues: “Expecting to be totally bored, he meets three other curious, brave, funny kids and together they solve the mystery of a series of thefts happening across the campsite. The finger of blame has started pointing at the children — they must find the true culprit to clear their names and see justice done!"

Vicky has worked tirelessly with her dementia choir where she became inspired after her grandmother's battle with the disease.
