Martin Compston hits back at trolls who slated his 'cringe' TRNSMT cameo

Martin Compston has hit back at trolls who slated his 'cringe' TRNSMT cameo.

The Line of Duty star got up to introduce his friend and festival act, Example, on the King Tut's stage at Glasgow Green earlier this month.

He took the mic and screamed "f*** Glastonbury"  in a move that resulted in some being left unimpressed, with critics on social media calling him "potty-mouthed" and a "bellend".

But the 40-year-old has taken the criticism in good humour as he responded that he was just "having a laugh".

Speaking on the Let Me Be Frank podcast, Martin said: “Example big Elliot is a great friend of mine.

“He phoned me up and said that he would love me to introduce him on stage. I was like ‘what an honour.’

“I then slowly started to go, ‘Is this a good idea?’ because I hate public speaking unless I’m in character as I don’t like being in front of a crowd.

“So the only way I can do that is to have a few drinks, but then that gets good, so at the start of the night you don’t want to go up and by the end of the night you’re like ‘gie me that mic.’

“Then people are going ‘Look at that’ but if you could have seen the state of me at the early T in the Parks when there wisnae any camera phones, it was great. That was some nick.

“But when I look back [at TRNSMT] that was just me having a laugh.”
