Former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has accomplished what very few former NFL players have been able to: he’s been nominated for a major film award.
Lynch earned a Best Breakthrough Performance nomination for the Independent Spirit Awards on Tuesday for his performance in Emma Seligman comedy Bottoms.
The NFL alumnus played Mr. G in the comedy, a foul-mouthed teacher who works at the school where the film’s two leads attend.
Lynch has compiled an impressive list of television credits with appearances on shows like Westworld, Murderville, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and The League.
While he made a cameo in this year’s NFL-centric comedy 80 for Brady, Bottoms represents his first big role in a major motion picture.
The Indie Spirit nomination is his first major recognition for his acting career. He won a Super Bowl with Seattle in 2014 and is widely regarded as one of the most beloved players of his generation.
