Married At First Sight’s Whitney takes a swipe at Matt as reason for split is unveiled

Matt Murray and Whitney Hughes were one of the most controversial couples on this year’s Married At First Sight UK series – as they were both originally married to other people.

The duo returned to screens for a reunion episode last night, where it was revealed which couples were still together, and which had gone their separate ways.

All 20 contestants gathered for a final dinner party weeks after the experiment ended.

While some put on a united front as they walked in, there was shock – and some tears – as it was confirmed which couples had now gone their separate ways.

Whitney and Matt finished the experiment declaring they were in love, but the duo’s tune had dramatically changed by the time the reunion came around.

Controversial contestant Whitney will be seen calling out her ex Matt after it is was revealed they are no longer an item in the second part of the reunion which will air tonight on E4.

Whitney claimed that it was Matt’s insecurities that ultimately lead to the demise of their relationship.

In scenes from their final sit-down with the show’s experts, the pair agreed they were “not together”, before Whitney said she was “over it” when they asked what happened.

A preview, seen by the Sun, Gemma – who was Matt’s original wife in the experiment – quips: “It's funny considering they love each other.“

Appearing a little lost for words, Matt responds: “Erm. Coming out of the experiment we spent a lot of time together to start with didn't we? Whitney came up to mine, I went down to Whitney's.

“I just think we hit a few boundaries. It's s**t. It was, it was s**t.“

The couple said the first moments outside the show were “spot on” but as time went on cracks started to show, and Whitney revealed the real reason for their split.

“I feel that because Matthew has a lot going on in his life – a lot going on in his head – I felt that it was manifesting to me some times in ways that I didn't like,” she said.

Matt seemed to agree and added how his “previous insecurities” had resurfaced and “put on to Whit”.

“Ultimately falling in love with somebody is a scary place – you are almost try and avoid because it does surface the insecurities. When you haven't got anything to lose, you aren't worried about losing it.“

Despite their relationship coming to an end, the couple said they still have chemistry.

The second part of the reunion episode airs on E4 at 9pm tonight, when there is set to be even more fireworks.

It was even reported producers had to ‘step in’ to stop fights between cast members during filming.

Matt and Whitney were originally matched with other people but their original marriages didn’t work out and it was clear there was chemistry between them. Later, they asked producers if it was something they could ‘explore’ on the show.

The pair were allowed to continue as a ‘dating’ couple, but the decision divided the group with some feeling they had ‘abused the process’.

After one week together they declared they were in love, but despite the others assuming they would still be a couple to ‘save face’, Whitney walked in alone.

Revealing they had split soon after the vow renewals, she claimed it was the three-hour distance between them that caused it – and also because she had 'cut and run too many times'.

She said: “I'm never going to regret anything that we went through. I still have love for Matthew for sure.”
