Married at First Sight fans were left disappointed in April amid ‘Yes Week’ on the E4 dating show, as she forced George to abseil down the side of Tottenham's football stadium.
George Roberts previously admitted he has a major fear of heights to his new bride April Banbury, but as she was in charge of their activities she decided to have them do the daring stunt.
George was visibly distressed as he went over the edge in the abseil, shouting at April that he would “divorce her”.
Although George made it to ground level in one piece, several fans took the scenes as evidence April was seeking ‘revenge’ for the fallout from their honeymoon.
While away on their romantic trip, April had actually kissed someone else in the hot tub, but later explained it away as a ‘dare’, only for George to later share the shocking tale with his fellow contestants at the reunion.
When the gossip spread through the room, partly as contestants told one another and because George had told a fair few people by the end of the dinner, April was left surprised to hear the news come back to her from Thomas.
Following the Tottenham stadium scenes in which George at times appeared too scared to move, fans took to Twitter to call out April’s decision to do the activity, which she said was an opportunity to ‘bring out his confidence’.
However, one described it as a “chance to torture” George, as another penned: “He said he’s got a fear of heights and she’s put him through this? There’s so many adventure things that don’t require heights like whyyy.”
“Making someone abseil when they are scared of heights, isn't making someone more assertive. poor George, that's terrifying,” another wrote.
Another fan wrote: “Making George do this abseil is definitely not revenge for the drama with the other girl in the hot tub…” as a fellow fan chimed: “I genuinely feel April is getting revenge on George for trying to process what happened on honeymoon with the others.”
Other fans were particularly shocked April laughed at his obvious fear, writing: “Yes week shouldn’t mean making somebody do something they fear omg and laughing at him.”
“Is she actually f***ing serious?! She really doesn’t understand fears, does she?! Fear of heights doesn’t mean he isn’t f***ing assertive. I would genuinely hate anyone who made me do that,” another wrote.
A fellow fan concluded: “April making him do what he’s scared of is a bit…mean? She might as well have taken him to a sky-high hot tub and kissed some girls.”
