The first dinner party of the latest series of Married at First Sight Australia kicked off with a bang on Tuesday, March 14 on E4 and, as expected, it was filled with explosive drama as Claire and Jesse, who first met at the altar before getting married, butted heads with their approach to their relationship. This rift in the start of their marriage caused them to enter the dinner party solo - much to the shock of their fellow participants.
Married At First Sight sees single men and women paired up by 'love experts' based on a variety of factors and the first time they meet is at the altar. This drama between Jesse and Claire comes soon after the pair first clashed ahead of their honeymoon when Jesse "shushed" Claire for speaking too loudly while they were waiting to board their flight. This discourse between the newlyweds continued and Claire was seen abandoning her new husband on the last night of the post-wedding trip after he mocked one of her interests - read more on that here.
After returning to Australia, Claire reached out to her new husband to clear the air, only to be disappointed once again by "a closed-off Jesse who basically said 'I don't chase girls', which made me feel pretty embarrassed". It forced her to arrive to the highly-anticipated dinner party, which is watched by the programme's three relationship experts, Mel Schilling, John Aiken and Alessandra Rampolla, in a separate room, alone.
While awaiting the final two at the reunion, fellow bride Melissa - who married Josh in Monday night's episode - was seen to say: "I hope that someone doesn't walk in without someone". And when Claire did exactly that, the girls were astounded and ran over to the 31-year-old Kindergarten assistant's aid. Watching this scenario unfold, John said: "There's no other way to explain it. If you're walking in alone, something has gone wrong."
Later in the episode, viewers saw Jesse enter the situation, without even acknowledging Claire was in the room, before he eventually greeted her when she bought him a beer. "He seems very dismissive," said one of the experts after voicing her disappointment ("Incredibly disappointing") as Jesse refused one-to-one time with Claire after she extended the 'olive branch'.
Speaking in the VT, Claire said emotionally: "I've chased him again. But I just got nothing, like..." before bursting into tears and telling the cameras she feels "really stupid".
When it came to sitting down for dinner, Jesse was soon interrogated by another contestant, Bronte, who is paired up with Harrison - who in turn asked him how it was going. Shrugging, Jesse nonchalantly said it was going alright. Shocked, Claire said: "You reckon? 'Cause I think it's going terrible."
Commenting on this, the experts weighed in. "He seems completely detached," said Mel, before adding later: "Jesse come on, step up."
Married at First Sight Australia airs on E4 weekdays at 7.30pm
