Mark Wilson backs Brendan Rodgers as he points to 'different' factor

Former Celtic defender Mark Wilson has played down concerns about Brendan Rodgers and backed the 50-year-old to still be successful during his second spell in charge.

The Hoops recently lost 2-0 to Hearts at Parkhead, their second league defeat on the bounce, as their struggles continue domestically.

But Wilson feels any talk of a disaster under Rodgers is far too premature. Speaking on Clyde One Superscoreboard, he said: "What is he four or five months into his second spell?

"He is sitting five points clear, whichever way you frame it, with Rangers having two games in hand.

"That is fine. But one of those games will come in January. It must be the earliest time to pull the plug, to save your season, when you are on top of the league. I have never heard that before.

“This, I just can’t get my head around this, ‘the need to act quickly. Rangers acted quickly under Beale’. Surely, anybody can tell the difference between Celtic, at the minute, at the top of the league where Michael Beale was against Aberdeen.

"Surely that’s an easy thing to see. I just don’t think you should sack Rodgers."

Celtic and Rangers are reportedly both "keeping tabs" on Kilmarnock goalkeeper Will Dennis.

This is according to the Daily Record who claim that "recruitment staff at both clubs are admirers of the 23-year-old".

Dennis is currently on loan at the Rugby Park side from Bournemouth, with his contract expiring in the summer.

The report also states that a move for the Englishman would be dependent on either side losing their current goalkeeper.

The Premier League loanee has played 24 times for Derek McInnes' side so far this season.

Dennis has previously featured for Guernsey, Weymouth, Wealdstone and Slough Town.
