Mark Williams has fans in stitches with blunt response to rival's 147 congratulations

Mark Williams had fans in stitches and applauding his openness after he issued a blunt response to the praise of rival Neil Robertson.

Despite posting two centuries, including an historic 147, Williams suffered a 5-3 defeat in an epic English Open quarter-final match against Australian Robertson. The 47-year-old Welsh snooker star became the oldest player to make a competitive maximum in the fourth frame, but was up against an in-form Williams who potted three centuries himself.

After the match Williams hailed his rival as "the best player in the world" and then had a blunt reaction on social media to the amusement of his fans.

Robertson posted a video of his interview after the epic match on Twitter with the comment: "Great match today very enjoyable and congrats again to @markwil147 on his 147."

In a blunt response world number 11 Williams posted a single emoji of a middle finger. Fans were left laughing at the the Welsh player with @vinntagg commenting with a laughing emoji and stating: "Tell us how you really feel Mark."

Fans also praised Williams for being open about his feelings on social media. @96_Mikeys added: "Honest as always Willo." Another fan said they would like to watch a hockey game with the snooker star. @snoshi added: "This is the kind of tweet I wanna see after a match. Pretty sure Mark Williams is the kind of guy I wanna watch a hockey game with so he can yell at everything."

During the match Williams hit his maximum 147 break and then went to make his way out of the venue before being stopped by opponent Robertson offering his congratulations.

"I was kind of waiting for him, he ran off, he then stopped and sort of smiled at me and waited for me to shake his hand," said Robertson when interviewed.

"It was an amazing break, it was pretty much perfect, all the way. It was a brave way to play the pinks just dropping them in and leave a really high black.

"That's kind of always been his style. He has always made sure he's had a pot no matter what on the black. It was a fantastic break and nice to be in the arena when it happened."
