Mark Warburton leaves West Ham as ex-Rangers boss seeks 'senior position'

Mark Warburton has left West Ham.

The former Rangers manager was appointed as an assistant first-team coach at the London club last year.

He was part of the coaching team to guide West Ham to a historic Europa Conference League triumph this season.

However, Warburton has left the club after "amicable discussions" as he outlined his desire to "seek new opportunities at a more senior level".

He told the club website: “I am hugely grateful to West Ham United and, in particular, David Moyes for the opportunity to work for this fantastic football club.

“I’ve enjoyed my time here but, at this stage of my career, I am keen to seek new opportunities at a more senior level that are aligned with the attributes I believe I have to offer.

“I wish everyone at West Ham well and will always have fond memories of my time here.”

West Ham manager David Moyes said: “I would like to thank Mark for all of his hard work and support during his time here. He’s played an important role for us over the last 12 months and has been a great help to me personally.

“However, with his aspirations to seek a more senior position elsewhere, we felt it was the right time to agree to part ways. On behalf of all of the players and staff, I wish Mark every success in the future.”

On Twitter, Warburton added: "An absolute privilege to have worked at West Ham.

"An outstanding group of players, supported by a tremendous staff team, all of whom made my time at the club so memorable.

"I wish each and every one the very best of luck for next Season.

"On now to the next opportunity!"

A West Ham statement added: "Everyone at West Ham United would like to thank Mark for his service and wish him all the very best for the future."
