Mark Wahlberg shared a humorous anecdote about his mother, Alma Wahlberg, meeting George Clooney on the set of the 2000 film The Perfect Storm. Alma apparently had a fondness for Clooney, even jokingly suggesting that he was hitting on her. Mark playfully encouraged his mother's fantasy, suggesting she have a baby with Clooney to become his stepfather.

The Perfect Storm, based on a book by Sebastian Junger, saw Mark and Clooney portraying characters caught in a tragic event. Mark described the experience of working with Clooney, director Wolfgang Petersen, and the rest of the cast and crew as amazing, emphasizing the respect they paid to the real-life individuals the film was based on.

Mark, the youngest of Alma and Donald Wahlberg Sr.'s nine children, paid tribute to his mother following her passing in April 2021. Alma, who appeared on the reality series Wahlburgers, was remembered by her sons Mark and Donnie with heartfelt messages and social media posts.
