Nottingham Forest giving manager Steve Cooper the vote of confidence is the ‘last thing he needs’, according to former defender Mark Lawrenson.
The Reds boss found himself under mounting pressure this week following a 4-0 loss against Leicester City on Monday night. It was reported that his future at the City Ground was being considered after the fifth loss in a row in the Premier League.
However, the Welshman will now be in the dugout for Monday night’s clash against Aston Villa and has been backed as the man to lead Forest up the table. It was confirmed by the club on Friday that Cooper has signed a new deal that runs until 2025.

It was news that came as a shock, given the reports of the pressure that Cooper had found himself under. But Lawrenson has suggested that the development may not be the best news for the manager, citing the dreaded ‘vote of confidence’.
“I think Steve Cooper’s had a vote of confidence which is the last thing he needs,” the pundit told PaddyPower .
“Villa, you could argue, were slightly the better team against Leeds but that isn’t really saying a lot. I think Villa will just have enough."
Mark Lawrenson’s prediction: Nottingham Forest 1-2 Aston Villa.
Villa go into the game off the back of a run of more positive results after also having a difficult start to the season. After a 2-1 loss against Arsenal at the end of August, Steven Gerrard’s side have drawn two and won one of their last three games, including a 1-1 draw against reigning Premier League champions Manchester City.
Following the game against Villa, Cooper and Forest face another Midlands side in Wolverhampton Wanderers before making the journey down south to take on Brighton and Hove Albion.
