Mark Hamill has joined the fight against “evil empire" Russia by putting Star Wars posters on the auctioning block.
The Luke Skywalker actor, who is ambassador for the Army of Drones – the first ambassador to raise funds for drones for the Ukraine army – is hoping to raise money to buy 10 more to help the embattled nation.
The drones cost a staggering £124,500 each.
Hamill has publicly supported the country and its president, Volodymyr Zelensky, since Vladimir Putin’s army invaded the country one year ago today.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain on Friday, the 71-year-old revealed that he had hand-signed Star Wars-inspired posters, which he would be putting up for an auction and raffle.
Hamill, who has not attended conventions or signed memorabilia since 2017, making the chance of obtaining a signed poster difficult for fans, said: “The X-Wing is Ukraine against this massive armada of a fully weaponised death machine.
“It’s extraordinary, the David and Goliath aspect of this has been astonishing.
“Everyone said they were expected to be overrun in four days… and you see this heroic response.
“The resolve and the resolute spirit of the Ukrainian people has been just inspirational. And the president himself, who could have guessed that he could have risen to the occasion as he has."
The actor, who spoke with president Zelensky over Zoom last year to discuss the project, quoted his own US President Joe Biden, saying: “Freedom is worth fighting for, as long as it takes."
Asked if Zelensky is a fan of Star Wars, the Hollywood star recalled how he had, in a meeting with him, described Russia as the “evil empire".
The president also described the films as a “relentlessly optimistic… fairytale" that “resonates in every culture".
