Marisa Tomei recently had an enjoyable experience playing the role of a demanding gallery owner in the romantic comedy, Upgraded. In this Prime Video film, Tomei portrays Claire Dupont, a character who hires an aspiring art industry professional named Ana Santos, played by Camila Mendes. As Ana tries to impress her boss, she finds herself entangled in a web of deception when she meets a charming Englishman, Will Laroche (Archie Renaux), who mistakes her for Claire.
During the film's premiere at IPIC Downtown on February 7th, Tomei shared with PEOPLE that she had a lot of fun shooting scenes alongside Rachel Matthews and the other actresses. One of her favorite scenes involved shaving her legs in the midst of bossing her assistant around. This particular moment was challenging to film due to the precise timing required for the props involved.
In preparation for the movie's release, Tomei appeared on Today with Hoda & Jenna, where she was shown a photo of her hair from her time on the '80s sitcom, A Different World. She amusingly referred to her auburn shag cut as 'unforgivable' and admitted that she couldn't bear to look at it. Reflecting on that period, she explained that she had little say in her appearance and simply went along with the decisions made by the show's creators.
Directed by Carlson Young, Upgraded marks Mendes's first film role since her seven-season run on The CW's Riverdale. The cast also includes Lena Olin, Anthony Head, Saoirse-Monica Jackson, and Andrew Schulz.
Upgraded is now available for streaming on Prime Video, allowing audiences to enjoy the romantic comedy filled with mistaken identities, budding romance, and the challenges faced by Ana as she balances her love life and career. With Marisa Tomei's talent and captivating performance, Upgraded offers a delightful viewing experience for all romantic comedy enthusiasts.
