The Marine Corps has named nine specific categories of personnel who must receive a seasonal flu shot this year, and one of them extends the requirement beyond uniformed troops: civilian employees working in child development and youth services programs. Everyone else in the Corps can decline.
That is the newest and most consequential detail for military households. Base child development centers care for infants and toddlers, including children too young to be vaccinated against influenza themselves, and the staff who work in those rooms are now covered by a requirement that most Marines are not.
