Marijan Cabraja is set to sign for Hibs, according to a report.
The left back will replace Josh Doig at Easter Road. The Scotland under 21 international is on the verge of completing a £3million move to Verona in Italy, and Lee Johnson has moved quickly to fill the gap his departure will leave.
Cabraja will pen a three-year deal with the Hibees, according to Croatian outlet Germanijak. Hibs won’t have to pay a transfer fee, but a significant portion of any future deal that sees him move on will go to current club Dinamo Zagreb.
The 25-year-old defender made 25 appearances for them last season, providing two assists. Cabraja was linked with Rangers back in December 2020 while still playing for Gorica, and claimed that the Ibrox club had “been in contact” with him over a potential switch to Scotland as they looked to land the next Borna Barisic.
But it looks like he’ll be lining up against the Gers this season as Johnson prepares to add another new face to his squad. David Marshall, Nohan Kenneh, Jair Tavares, Lewis Miller, Elie Youan and Momodou Bojang have all signe don in Leith after Johnson took the reins from interim boss David Gray this summer.
However, he won't be the first new left back to try and oust Lewis Stevenson from the side. The long-serving left back has seen several pretenders come and go over the years. But Cabraja, who has three caps for the Croatian national team, appears to be a step up in quality from previous additions to the left hand side of defence.
