Marcus Tavernier injury latest as Andoni Iraola issues update on Bournemouth star

Bournemouth star Marcus Tavernier is set for a spell on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

In another huge fitness blow for the Cherries, the influential Tavernier was forced off during the 1-1 draw at Brighton on Monday, and now faces a period on the sidelines.

Manager Andoni Iraola said post-match on Monday that Tavernier would be a "massive" loss for his team, who are already juggling injuries to  Justin Kluivert, David Brooks, Julio Soler, Ben Gannon-Doak, Tyler Adams, Enes Unal and Will Dennis.

"He felt his hammy," Iraola said on Monday. "So there is something there. Probably not big ... but he's a player that has had in the past problems with the hammy.

"So he's a key player for us because he's very good. He's making the numbers. He can play as an eight, he can play as a 10, he can play right winger, he can play left winger.

"To lose him now after losing Antoine [Semenyo to Man City] and after losing Justin is massive, for us it’s massive."

Asked for an update on Friday, ahead of the visit of Liverpool on Saturday, Iraola confirmed that Tavernier will miss the game but was unable to give a timeline for his return.

"He will be out for some time," the Bournemouth manager is quoted as saying.

He added that "Brooks is not ready for this one" but hopes Unal will be part of the matchday squad.
