Marcus Rashford starts but no youngsters — Manchester United predicted line up vs Chelsea

Manchester United head into their clash with Chelsea on Thursday with a lengthy injury list.

As many as six players have been ruled out of the contest, with some unlikely to be seen again this season — or again in a United side. It has led to Ralf Rangnick suggesting that a number of youngsters could come into the squad.

One of those is Hannibal Mejbri, who had a memorable cameo during the 4-0 loss to Liverpool. Meanwhile, teenage left-back Alvaro Fernandez may be called upon, as may young forwards Shola Shoretire and Alejandro Garnacho.

Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani may have donned a United shirt for the last time as they continue to nurse their respective long-term calf injuries ahead of expected moves away. Fred is also suffering from injury so is unavailable too while Luke Shaw sits out with his leg problem.

Two new blows have been dealt to Rangnick in recent days, with Harry Maguire out with a knee problem and Jadon Sancho suffering with tonsillitis. Aaron Wan-Bissaka faces a late fitness test.

United fans could see just one change to the line-up that lost 3-1 to Arsenal on Saturday. A weakened back line could see Rapahel Varane partnering Victor Lindelof in the centre of defence with Diogo Dalot and Alex Telles completing the defensive line in front of David de Gea.

Scott McTominay will probably partner the departing Nemanja Matic in the centre of midfield with Marcus Rashford the most likely candidate to replace Sancho on the left flank. Anthony Elanga is tipped to start a fourth consecutive league game on the other side as Bruno Fernandes supports Cristiano Ronaldo in attack.

Predicted Manchester United XI vs Chelsea: De Gea; Dalot, Lindelof, Varane, Telles; McTominay, Matic; Rashford, Fernandes, Elanga; Ronaldo.
