Marcus Rashford makes Alejandro Garnacho prediction after Manchester United display vs Aston Villa

Marcus Rashford has forecasted Alejandro Garnacho will score “a lot more goals” and go on to have an exciting career following his promising run in the first team in recent weeks.

The attacker recorded two assists in the 4-2 League Cup win over Aston Villa on Thursday, a week after bagging his first senior goal against Real Sociedad in the Europa League. Garnacho has had a memorable year, during which he lifted the FA Youth Cup at Old Trafford in May before scoring four goals in as many matches for Argentina’s Under-20s over the summer.

Many believe he has a shot at getting into the senior squad for this month’s World Cup as a result of his quick rise. The 18-year-old has been backed to have a stellar career by many, and Rashford is one of them.

Speaking after Thursday’s win over Aston Villa - in which he scored his eighth goal of the season - he hailed Garnacho for his contributions during the victory and predicted a bright future for the teenager. "He's full of energy and confidence,” he told MUTV.

“It's refreshing to have someone like that on the bench, who can come on and make a big impact. It's just the start for him. There's a lot more goals to come." Garnacho made his full United debut in the 3-0 Europa League win over Sheriff last month before two more starts followed.

After playing 83 minutes in the 1-0 triumph over Real Sociedad, Garnacho made his full Premier League debut in Sunday’s 3-1 loss to Aston Villa at Villa Park, lasting 65 minutes.

Speaking in Wednesday’s fans' press conference, Erik ten Hag said the youngster had “deserved” a run in the team. The Dutchman also said the door is open to other academy graduates if they are willing to push hard enough.

Ten Hag said: “I am open to bringing in young players and you have seen the last couple of games we have brought in Alejandro Garnacho because he deserved it through his performances on the training pitch.

“If players deserve it and they can contribute to our success, we will bring them in. I’m also open to other players and Manchester United have a big reputation in bringing up young players through the Academy into the first team. So I’m really one who will back that process.”
