Marcus Rashford gets brutal Arsenal transfer verdict as Manchester United exit accelerates

Ambitious Arsenal will offer Marcus Rashford an escape route out of Manchester United this summer.

The Gunners are in the market for an attacker and have added the 24-year-old to their hit-list.

But former Celtic and Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino remains unconvinced Rashford has the killer instinct to become an Emirates hero.

Manager Mikel Arteta needs a recognised senior striker with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang having quit for Barcelona.

And with both Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah out of contract this summer, it leaves former Rangers star Arteta short up front.

The Gunners were linked with a string of forwards during January’s transfer window but Rashford was understood not to be up for grabs at that point.

However, he has since slipped down the pecking order under interim Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick.

And Cascarino reckons the England international has plenty to work on if he is to get back to his best and earn a money-spinning tranfer.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “To be a natural striker, and this is something I learned along the way and I got better at as I got older, so Marcus could become better, because there’s no reason why someone can’t improve, you have to be very, very clinical.

“You have to punish because, if you’re going to a club like Arsenal, they’re looking to progress and be a Champions League team, so you have to be clinical in front of goal.

“I joked and sometimes called Lacazette ‘Lack a finish’, which is a bit harsh because I think he’s a decent player, but he’s not being clinical enough for Arsenal.

“They’ve needed that, for him to be punishing teams, and I don’t think Marcus is ready to do that at Arsenal.”
