Marcus Jones explains what makes WR Demario Douglas so tough to cover

New England Patriots rookie wide receiver Demario “Pop” Douglas is making quite an impression on his teammates. That includes second-year cornerback Marcus Jones, who recently gave the rookie wide receiver tremendous praise.

Douglas has been making himself known over the course of training camp. However, success is nothing new for the sixth-round draft pick, who quarterback Mac Jones called a Jacksonville “legend”.

Now, he is impressing on a national stage.

Jones has yet to win a one-on-one rep against Douglas in training camp. When speaking with the media, he explained what made the rookie such a tough cover. The corner gave props to Douglas, specifically on the receiver’s work in one-on-one drills.

“His quickness. He knows how to stem. Getting out of his breaks, he doesn’t slow down,” said Jones, via ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “Some receivers in their rookie year slow down out of breaks but he keeps it going.”

That quickness will be important for a New England offense that needs to find a spark in 2023.

The Patriots need to do everything they can to keep up offensively with not only the AFC East, but the rest of the teams on their ridiculously stacked 2023 schedule.
