Marco Silva makes major Fabio Carvalho transfer admission as Liverpool could sign £4m defender

Liverpool's hopes of landing the Premier League title this season took a blow on Saturday evening after the Reds drew 1-1 with Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.

Luis Diaz rescued a point for Jurgen Klopp's side after cancelling out Son Heung-Min's opener and although a point puts the Merseyside club top of the league on goal difference, Manchester City can return to the summit with either a win or draw against Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon.

It means that Liverpool's hopes of completing an unprecedented quadruple are now looking unlikely, but supporters still have an FA Cup final and Champions League final to look forward to this month. Here's a round-up of the latest Liverpool transfer rumours doing the rounds on Sunday morning.

Who?

Fabio Carvalho

Where?

The Athletic

Why?

Marco Silva believes that Fabio Carvalho would have signed a new deal with Fulham had he arrived at Craven Cottage earlier. Carvalho is widely rumoured to have agreed a deal to join Liverpool at the end of the season in a £7.7milllion deal when his current contract expires.

As per The Athletic, Silva said: “I think he has a brilliant career in front of him. He is a top, top talent in my opinion. Unfortunately for me, I probably arrived a little bit late in this football club. With more time, he would have renewed his contract before. Definitely.”

Who?

Calvin Ramsay

Where?

Football Insider

Why?

Calvin Ramsay would pick Liverpool or Leeds United in the summer transfer window, according to former Scotland manager Alex McLeish.

The Reds are in need of top quality defensive cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold and 18-year-old right-back Ramsay, reportedly valued at £4m, has put in a string of impressive performances for Aberdeen this season, in the Scottish Premier League.

McLeish told Football Insider : "I would imagine, if I was in that position right now, I want to go to Liverpool. Because of the magnitude of the club, because of the lack of any chance of relegation. Even though I’d be an understudy to Trent Alexander-Arnold for a couple of years, I’ll get in and out.

“You’ve got a timeframe to develop yourself. Then if you end up cutting it at Liverpool, you’ve almost won the World Cup, haven’t you? I would expect a young player to be thinking that. Not thinking: ‘Well, Leeds are on the verge of relegation in the Championship. Maybe I’ll play more games in there.’

“That is a blooming hard league, the Championship. Any team can win on any given day. Even the bottom teams can beat the top teams. If Liverpool and Leeds are in for him, I would think he’d, all day long, choose Liverpool.”

Who?

Joe Gomez

Where?

Birmingham Live / Liverpool Echo

Why?

Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Joe Gomez this summer, but the Reds are set to hold talks with the England defender over a new contract. The 24-year-old has only made seven appearances for Jurgen Klopp's side this season as was the subject of interest from Steven Gerrard's Villa in January.

Klopp did not want to lose Gomez mid-season with the Reds competing on four fronts and needing as strong a squad as possible. The versatile centre-back, who can also operate as a full-back will sit down for talks over a new contract in the coming weeks, but should he decided to move on, Villa Park could be a likely next destination.
