World-renowned chef Marco Pierre White shocked the owners of a restaurant near Tenby when he popped in for Sunday lunch. And the outspoken TV chef, who has restaurants of his own around the UK and Ireland, praised the meal he was served at Rib and Oyster.
After tucking into scallops as a starter followed by fillet steak and a turbot and lobster thermidor, served with homemade chips, he said it was "the best meal" he had eaten in a long time.
The Kilgetty restaurant opened last year after owner Gavin Davies and wife Lucie decided to expand their fishmongers and butcher business. They have been so busy, Marco and his team of three were lucky to have got a table at the end of the Sunday sitting.

Gavin said: "They phoned up to make the booking on the Saturday, and we were nearly fully booked but managed to get a table fitted in at the end of the day. They arrived a bit early, so went and had a pint at the White Horse across the road while they waited.
“Jake, our chef, obviously did things right because at the end of his meal Marco said it was the best meal he’d eaten in a long time! To have that sort of feedback from one of the best chefs in the world was something else."
Gavin says that they opened the restaurant after being unable to see all their catch from the fishmongers during lockdown. "It has gone from strength to strength since then, and we are constantly busy," he said. "We are only a small restaurant with around 10 tables, but we have had some great five-star reviews, and we are just delighted to be able to provide people with some quality, fresh Welsh produce."
