Marc Skinner hails 'unbelievable' Manchester United after Alessia Russo late show sinks Arsenal

Manchester United boss Marc Skinner has hailed his side's last-gasp victory over Arsenal in the Women's Super League as a moment he "wants to remember forever".

United took the lead inside 39 minutes at the Emirates, with a goal from England midfielder Ella Toone capping off a scintillating first-half display. However the Red Devils were pegged back shortly after the break thanks to a deflected strike from Frida Maanum and found themselves trailing 2-1 going into the closing stages after a neat finish from Laura Wienroither.

It looked like Marc Skinner's side were on course for their second straight league defeat before headers from defender Millie Turner and Lionesses forward Alessia Russo ensured the three points were heading back Manchester.

“It’s one of those moments [where] you lose yourself for a second,” Skinner said to MUTV following his side's dramatic victory. “I actually think I invented dance moves, but you lose your moment.

“There are so many lows in this game, but the highs are (amazing). That moment, I want to remember it forever.”

While the Reds looked certain to continue their dismal record away to the WSL's coventional 'big three' in the latter stages, Skinner revealed that he was always confident his side would get something from the game.

“That is exactly why we do this job; it was a rollercoaster of emotions,” he said. “We came back, and I asked them tonight to show personality. The game management from the players on the pitch tonight was unbelievable.

“I never felt tonight that they looked like they wanted to collapse their mentality. They went after the game and actually when they went a goal behind, I thought we were the better team. An unbelievable performance.”

The win saw United climb to second in the WSL table, level on points with league-leaders Arsenal, with fellow title hopeful's Chelsea in action against Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon. While there is still a long way to go before the WSL season reaches its conclusion, the Red Devils' triumphant display in North London has blown the title race wide open and brings United a step closer to realising their dream of Champions League qualification.

Marc Skinner's side will return to league action against Aston Villa at Old Trafford on December 3.
