Marc Roca plays down Sergio Busquets and Xabi Alonso comparisons and 'dreaming big'

Leeds United new boy Marc Roca has played down comparisons to Sergio Busquets and Xabi Alonso from earlier in his career. The Whites playmaker has started both of their opening two Premier League fixtures so far this season and is expected to maintain his place this weekend.

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, Roca said: "I think Xabi Alonso and [Sergio] Busquets are incredible players but they're a little bit different. Busquets is more playing and Alonso is more aggressive, but I think they're incredible players and I've tried to learn a lot from them.

"Alonso played here for Liverpool and I remember watching videos and I think he did a really good job here. I think I'm a little bit in the middle of them. I try to bee sometimes like Busquets or Alonso.

"I am who I am and I always try to improve every part of the game for my team. Sometimes the team needs you to be like Busquets and then the team sometimes needs Xabi Alonso."

Roca has struck up an impressive partnership with Tyler Adams in the heart of midfield, but the Whites playmaker has also thanked the Spanish contingent at Elland Road for helping him settle in. He added: "I'm very good [with the Tyler Adams partnership], very comfortably with him. I think he's an incredible player and the connection we have is very good.

"When I'm going, when I'm pressing, he's behind me looking at what can happen. For me as well, the relationship is good and everyday we understand each other better and we're helping the team.

"We are helping Joel [Robles] as well. Rodrigo was on my side, Junior and Diego, whatever I needed they helped me. It's incredible because when you're new in one place, sometimes you don't know what you've got to do. With them, for me, it was very easy and I'm very grateful."

It's been a bright start to the campaign for Jesse Marsch's side and Roca believes the Whites can achieve big things. He said: "I think we are working very hard. We are giving our best in every training session and game. we have the hunger to become a good team and I think we are going the right way.

"We have to keep pushing because we have a very good team. A young team that wants to be better every week and I think we can do a lot of good things step by step. I think we can dream big."

The 25-year-old has given the Whites a different dynamic in the heart of midfield and has caught the eye with his range of passing. Roca said: "I like to do these passes. I always try to give the team what I think we need in the moment. With Bamford, we have a lot of running into the deep and I can do good passes behind the lines.

"But, I like playing forward as well. In the forward play, to play easy, because sometimes I think you need to express but sometimes play easy.

"In football you don't have time to think. Every action is very fast, everything is quick here and you don't have time to think, it's time to react.

"Sometimes I do meditations to be clear and connect to myself and be ready. Sometimes the ball is arriving at you, you have to play and already know what you have to do. It's helped me a lot."
