The cost of living crisis has hit people up and down the country hard this winter, as soaring energy bills take their toll. Fortunately, more than eight million struggling families are due a direct payment of £301 in April - and there's a map detailing how many households in the Nottinghamshire districts will receive support.
These households - on means-tested benefits - will automatically receive the first instalment between April 25 and May 17, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) says. Those only in receipt of Tax Credits from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) will get the money once the first DWP payment window closes.
Outside of Nottingham city, there are more households in Ashfield than any other district in the county that will receive the £301 payment (16,800). Mansfield is next, with 15,500 households set to receive the support payment.
As for the rest of the UK, London will get the biggest chunk of the cash (15%, or more than £350m), followed by the North West (13%).
Of all local authority areas in the UK, Birmingham will receive the most cash support, a total of £63m to 208,800 households. That means almost one in two households in the city will benefit (49%).
Dates for the second and third instalment of the £900 cost of living payments - set to be worth £300 and £299 - have also yet to be announced. The second payment is due to be sent in summer 2023, while the third payment will be sent in spring 2024.
All the cost of living payments will be tax-free, will not count towards the benefit cap, and will not have any impact on existing benefit awards. Read below to see how many households in each Nottinghamshire region will be receiving the cost of living payment.
