Manchester United are set to complete two key transfers for their midfield.
Manuel Ugarte is set to travel to the north-west today to undergo a medical after a fee was agreed for a permanent switch from Paris Saint-Germain.
The Uruguayan was previously expected to join on loan but will now move for an initial £42million plus £8m in add-ons, according to multiple reports. The deal also represents an £8m climbdown from PSG’s original demand.
Erik ten Hag has made a defensive midfielder one of his key priorities this summer, alongside a new striker and defensive reinforcements.
Ahead of the medical, Ugarte hinted at his impending switch with an eyes-open emoji post on X.

Ugarte will join Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui as fifth major signing of the summer.
Leaving Manchester at the same time will be Scott McTominay.
The academy graduate has reached an agreement in principle on personal terms to sign for Serie A club Napoli. A medical could take place later today.
The Italians will pay £25m for McTominay, who Man Utd are said to be reluctant to sell but the player’s desire for first-team football has pushed the move through. Fulham and Everton were previously linked.
