BENGALURU: Solid off the tee and attacking the flag with regularity, Manuel Elvira didn’t appear like a pro looking for his maiden win on the Challenge Tour. The Spaniard, with two top-10 finishes this season in four starts, was in the zone, firing a sizzling nine-under 63 on the opening day of the Duncan Taylor Black Bull Challenge at the KGA on Thursday.
The 26-year-old from Santander, who relishes sunny conditions, made hay on a sweltering summer day here to shoot the best score ever by a pro — Khalin Joshi shot 10-under 62 as an amateur over a decade ago — for a one-shot lead over Welsh pro Oliver Farr (64) in the $300,000 event.
