Manuel Akanji has already made his feelings clear on Manchester United move amid transfer rumours

Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji has already made his feelings clear about a possible move to Manchester United amid reports linking him with a transfer.

The 26-year-old is being talked up as a possible target for United this summer, with his position in the Bundesliga giants’ side looking uncertain.

Akanji has been a regular for Dortmund this season, but his place in the side could be under threat from the impending arrival of Niklas Sule, who is set to make the move from Bayern Munich at the end of the season.

And reports in Germany are suggesting Akanji could end up making way for Sule, with United said to be in the hunt.

According to Bild, Sule had been earmarked as United interim manager Ralf Rangnick’s ‘number one candidate’ ahead of him moving into his consultancy role at Old Trafford.

With the Germany international joining Dortmund though, Rangnick is now said to be keen Akanji – and he wouldn’t take much convincing for a move.

"I have a big dream, to get as far as possible in football," Akanji told NZZ after signing for Dortmund back in 2018.

"Since my childhood days, Manchester United have been my favourite club. I'd like to play there one day.

"But right now, that's not an issue. I am happy at Dortmund and try to be the best possible person off the pitch.”

With Akanji clearly eyeing up a move to United at some point in the future, he could well prove to be an option for the Reds this summer.

The Switzerland international is under contract at the Westfalenstadion until 2023, but has reportedly already rejected the offer of a new deal, with the defender said to want to earn at least double the wages he is currently on.
