Darrell Clarke speaks: In an interview with Sky Sports, the tearful Port Vale manager dedicates today’s win to his daughter, who passed away in February.
“It means everything to me, but I want to dedicate that to my daughter who I lost, Ellie Clarke,” he says. “I dedicate the win to her, she’s up there helping us out today. I’m so proud of her, I’m so proud of my family and as for this, it’s amazing, absolutely amazing.”

James Wilson speaks: “It’s been a hard 46 [games] then the two playoffs, we’ve worked so hard,” says Port Vale’s man of the match. “I think we deserved that today. We weren’t happy with how we’ve performed going into the last few games of the season but we dusted ourselves down and ended up coming out the victors today. I think we were deserved winners in the end.”
Kian Harrett speaks: On loan from Huddersfield Town, who will be attempting to beat another team from Nottinghamshire in tomorrow’s Championship playoff final, the scorer of Port Vale’s opener has been talking to Sky Sports.
“I’m buzzing for the lads,” he says. “It’s what we deserved. The cross took a deflection so I had to check back but luckily I got there. On another day I could have had a hat-trick but I’ll settle for one today. I just go into each game as it comes. I try my best to score every game.”
He goes on to say he will definitely be in attendance at Wembley again tomorrow when his parent club try to win promotion to the Premier League.
Commiserations to Mansfield Town. The players and backroom staff of the team from Nottinghamshire stayed on the pitch to watch Port Vale lift the trophy. They can have no complaints about losing today - they were second best in almost every department.
Port Vale receive their trophy: The players celebrate after receiving their silverware, taking turns to hoist it skywards. They will join Forest Green, Exeter City and Bristol Rovers in being promoted to League One.

38 min: Having picked up an initial yellow for a daft, unnecessary off the ball incident, Hawkins gets a thoroughly deserved second a few moments later for a moronic late challenge on Wilson. What was he thinking?

In his pre-match interview, Mansfield manager Nigel CLough tells BT Sport he is unimpressed with the use of VAR today after his team has played 55 games this season without it. He is baffled that neither he nor his opposite number, Darrell Clarke, were consulted before its use was confirmed.

National League play-off semi-final
As we await kick-off at Wembley, Grimsby Town have just beaten Wrexham in a quite extraordinary National League play-off semi-final at the Racecourse Ground.
The National League’s Hollywood-owned big-spenders are out, losing in extra time by the odd goal of nine in a quite brilliant, gloriously chaotic game of football that ended 4-4 after 90 minutes. Grimsby Town will play Solihull Moors or Chesterfield in the final next weekend.

Early team news
Mansfield Town central midfielder George Maris is a doubt after he was forced to sit out the second leg of his side’s semi-final win over Northampton with injury. Mansfield manager Nigel Clough left loanees Jamie Murphy (Hibernian) and Matty Longstaff (Newcastle) on the bench for the second leg of the tie against Northampton but it would be no surprise to see either recalled today.
Port Vale manager Darrell Clarke has injury problems of his own and will be without long-term absentees Tom Conlon and Brad Walker in his midfield. His star striker, Jamie Proctor, is also a major doubt as a hip injury precluded him from starting either leg of the semi-final win over Swindon. Having come on as a second half substitute in the first leg, he didn’t feature in Vale’s matchday squad for the second.
Mansfield Town v Port Vale
There’s a place in English football’s third tier up for grabs at Wembley Stadium this afternoon, as Mansfield Town take on Port Vale in the League Two play-off final.
Just a point separated the sides as they finished seventh and fifth respectively at the end of the league campaign but Mansfield go into today’s decider as slight favourites after winning both legs of their play-off semi-final against Northampton, who were still reeling from the heartbreak of being pipped to automatic promotion by Bristol Rovers in the final minutes of the final day of the season.
Today’s is Port Vale’s first appearance in the renovated Wembley Stadium, while Mansfield Town haven’t not darkend the doors of FA HQ since losing the 2011 FA Trophy final to Darlington. Kick-off is at 4pm (BST) but stay tuned in the meantime for team news and build-up.
