Mansfield takeaway owner 'not happy at all' over food hygiene rating of 1

The owner of a takeaway in Mansfield which has been given a food hygiene rating of 1 says he is 'not happy at all' about the low rating. OPA!GREEK on Nottingham Road was inspected by a food safety officer on February 24, with the findings of the inspection recently published by the Food Standards Agency.

Three areas are inspected by a food safety officer, which are hygienic food handling, which in this case received a rating of 'improvement necessary', cleanliness and conditions of facilities and building, rated as 'generally satisfactory', and management of food safety, which was rated as 'major improvement necessary'.

The criteria around the management of food safety is the inspection of system or checks in place to ensure that food sold or served is safe to eat, evidence that staff know about food safety, and the food safety officer has confidence that standards will be maintained in future. And the takeaway's owner is 'not happy' at being given such a low rating after he says 'there wasn't anything serious' reported.

Emaniel Doksani, owner, said: "I'm not happy about the rating. We've appealed it and they're going to come again next month.

"Everything is now fixed, there wasn't anything serious. I'm not happy at all.

"They inspected and wanted some further restrictions on something, and there was some damp in our toilet. There were a couple of other things but we've done what they asked for, so I'm not sure why we've been given a rating of 1.

"I made some enquiries about what was said, and they're going to revisit again. We will definitely get a better rating."

'Hygienic food handling' inspects the hygienic handling of food including preparation, cooking, re-heating, cooling and storage. 'Cleanliness and condition of facilities and building' is inspected to enable good food hygiene, and an appropriate layout, ventilation, hand washing facilities and pest control are taken into account.
