Mansell handed one-match AFL ban

Richmond's Rhyan Mansell has received a one-week ban from the AFL tribunal. (AAP)

Richmond youngster Rhyan Mansell will miss the AFL clash with Hawthorn after he was issued a one-match suspension for striking.

Mansell came under scrutiny for twice thrusting his forearm into the back of Collingwood forward Jack Ginnivan's head during Saturday's match at the MCG.

Speaking on Fox Footy's coverage, St Kilda legend Nick Riewoldt described the act as "poor form".

No free kick was paid because the incident occurred after the three-quarter time siren.

It was assessed by the match review officer as intentional conduct, low impact and high contact.

"Clearly you would expect if it was in general play Mansell would've been done for two free kicks," Riewoldt said.

"But because it was after the siren, the umpires were powerless to do anything about it, other than potentially report the player.

"Mansell comes over the top with the one elbow, goes again a second time - which is pretty poor form."

Mansell would likely have lost his place in the Tigers' team regardless of the MRO findings, with Nick Vlastuin and Dion Prestia set to return against Hawthorn on Saturday.

Meanwhile, St Kilda midfielder Zak Jones will come under scrutiny after delivering a late bump on Melbourne winger Ed Langdon on Sunday.
