Mannix: ‘I’d be astonished’ if Boston Celtics president Brad Stevens had interest in Los Angeles Lakers coaching gig

If you had the worry in the back of your mind for some reason that former Boston Celtics head coach and current team president Brad Stevens might bail on the team to take the recently-opened head coaching job for the Los Angeles Lakers, per NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Mannix, you can rest a little easier.

“I think he’s in this job with the Celtics for the long term,” said Mannix in a recent interview when asked whether he believed the former Butler Bulldogs head honcho might have interest in the post previously held by Frank Vogel.

“I’d be astonished if he had any interest in coaching the Lakers right now,” elaborated the NBC Broadcaster. “The Lakers right now is a bad coaching job.”

We can’t imagine why Stevens would leave what is looking like it will be a long tenure with the sort of foundational success already in place that few new front office executives get a chance to start their tenure with.

But just in case his name is being considered by any short list projections that happen to pass in front of your eyes, absent further intel, we are inclined to agree with Mannix.
