Manika Batra, Sreeja Akula leave a mark at Paris Olympics

India's table tennis campaign centered around two women paddlers - Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula. Batra became the first Indian TT player to progress to the pre-quarterfinals of the Olympics. She was later followed by Sreeja Akula in the Round of 16, where both of them lost.

The women's team also reached the quarterfinals and it had its chances against Germany too for a semifinal spot, but it was not enough. The men's show was utterly disappointing. The team of Sharath Kamal, Harmeet Desai and Manav Thakkar crashed out in the Round of 16.

"To be at the top, a consistent winning mentality should also be there all the time, not just once in a while. The winning mentality is not about 'I want to win', it means I need to have that habit of winning," national coach Massimo Constantini said.
