Manic Street Preachers say 'we had a f***ing blast' as they blow away Glastonbury crowd

The Manic Street Preachers took to the stage on Saturday night at Glastonbury and had fans praising a flawless and high-energy set in blazing evening sunshine.

The Welsh band, known for hits like If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next and Motorcycle Emptiness, was playing nearly 30 years after their first performance at Worthy Farm, which included missing band member Richey Edwards, who has not been since 1995.

The band first played at Glastonbury in 1994 and bass player Nicky Wire shared fond memories. Speaking to the Other Stage crowd, he said: "The first time we played was 1994 and it was the four of us, we had the one and only Richard Edwards with us, oh yes, we had a f**king blast. Everything that could go wrong did go wrong, it was f**king fun you know."

Three decades on, and the Manics showed no sign of slowing down, to the delight of fans watching in the Somerset sun or on their sofas at home. One viewer said: "Loved them live in 1994 and still loving them now. On my sofa sadly this time though #manics #glastonbury2023".

Still a firm childhood favourite!" You can keep up to date with the latest TV and showbiz news by signing up to the newsletter here.

A fourth commented: "I'll say two things now. 1. The Manics are absolutely smashing Glastonbury at this moment. 2. As a band, they are getting better, and better and better."

The Manic Street Preachers of course performed on stage with Welsh flags at Glastonbury 2023 and the band was formed in 1986 in Blackwood, Caerphilly. The band is made up of James Dean Bradfield on lead guitar and vocals, Sean Moore on drums and Nicky Wire on bass guitar.
