Maniac driver hunted after police chase and three-car crash in Scots village

A manhunt is underway in Fife after a maniac driver sparked a police chase and caused a horror crash on a main road.

Officers tried to stop a Ford Fiesta in connection with road traffic offences at around 4.40pm on Tuesday.

Cops had been carrying out speeding checks in the Falkland area before attempting to flag down the motor.

The vehicle didn't stop and a police chase was soon underway.

A short time later police found the Fiesta, having crashed into two cars, one moving and one parked at Leven Road in Windygates.

Video footage shows one motor speed down a dual carriage way as other startled drivers slow down.

Seconds later a police vehicle careers down the same road in pursuit of the car.

An image shared with the Daily Record shows a silver Ford Fiesta with damage at the back.

Sitting diagonally across the road, signposted Douglas Terrace, a police car can also be seen, stopped close to houses on the road.

Officers said the driver fled the scene and as of 7pm on Tuesday, had not been traced.

Police have launched an appeal to help hunt down the driver but confirmed that they are 'following a positive line of enquiry'.

No injuries have been reported at this stage.

A Police Scotland spokesman told the Record: "At around 4.40pm on Tuesday, March 22 Road Policing officers carrying out speeding checks in the Falkland area attempted to stop a Ford Fiesta in connection with road traffic offences.

"The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit took place.

"A short time later, the Fiesta was traced having crashed into both a car and a parked car in the Leven Road area of Windygates, but the driver had run from the area.

"Efforts to trace him remain ongoing and officers are following a positive line of enquiry.

"There are no injuries to report at this time."
