The shooting murder of a low-level bikie associate in front of his home in Sydney's south-west has been labelled "as bad as it gets" by senior police.
A manhunt is underway after Marvin Oraiha, 24, was shot in his car on Hertfordshire Street in Elizabeth Hills, on Monday afternoon.
It's believed he was loosely linked to the Comanchero bikie gang, but police said they were not previously aware of him.
Two burnt cars found in nearby suburbs are believed to be connected to the shooting.
Detective Acting Superintendent Virginia Gorman said the method used indicated the shooting was "of organised crime origin".
"At this stage it’s too early to speak to what his links were prior to the murder," she said.
"We'll be looking at his recent associations and businesses, friends and other links."
Officers performed CPR on Mr Oraiha until paramedics arrived, but he could not be revived.
Witnesses told police they saw a white car speeding away shortly after the incident.
An Elizabeth Hills resident, who asked not to be identified, said the dead man's family was in shock.
"He was a very good boy, and very good family," he said.
"His mother and his sister, when they heard the guns they came outside. They saw him.
"We can't believe it."
Superintendent Gorman said she imagined Mr Ohaira's family were devastated.
She said the victim's girlfriend had left the car shortly before the shooting.
"He was a young man with a lot to look forward to.
"It's as bad as it gets. I think it's an awful crime.
"Really, really shocking for the family, for the people who live in that street, for his girlfriend."
Strikeforce Erebus, the NSW Police unit which tracks Sydney gangland shootings, is investigating the incident.
At least 18 people fatally gunned down since August 2020 have been linked to the city's underworld by police.
Mr Oraiha's death follows the alleged murder of 40-year-old father Taha Sabbagh outside a gym at Sefton in March.
