A driver led police on a chase down the wrong way of a motorway.
At around 8.50am today, officers spotted a car with false number plates on the M56 near Runcorn. Officers tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver drove off in the wrong direction of the carriageway and made off from police.
The people inside the car then abandoned the car and made off on foot. Officers searched the area but were unable to find the suspects, however the vehicle has been seized and will now be forensically examined.

Police stopped traffic on the M56 while they dealt with the incident. This caused delays of more than hour and congestion reached routes for Frodsham.
All lanes have since reopened. A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: "At around 8.50am today, Friday, May 19 officers spotted a vehicle on false number plates on the M56 near Runcorn.
"Police attempted to stop the car, but the driver drove off in the wrong direction down the carriageway and made off from officers. The occupants of the vehicle subsequently abandoned the car and made off on foot.
"Officers conducted a search of the area but were unable to locate the suspects. However, the vehicle has been seized and will now be forensically examined. Lane closures were put in place while officers were dealing with the incident, all lanes have since reopened."
