Mancunians soak up the sunshine and warm weather as Easter weekend gets off to glorious start

Mancunians have been soaking up the sunshine and uncharacteristically warm weather across the city as the Easter bank holiday weekend got off to a glorious start. Hotspots including Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester city centre and Peel Park in Salford have been filled with families and groups of friends getting out to make the most of it.

The region was in fact predicted to be hotter than Ibiza this Good Friday with temperatures expected to have peaked at around 20C compared to the Spanish Island - which was expected to reach 18C.

Despite clouding over by late afternoon, much of the region enjoyed periods of sunshine - with the air feeling warm even during more overcast periods.

In Salford's Peel Park, the daffodils were out in full force - a sign that Spring may have finally arrived. Groups of people could be seen enjoying walks in the park and even the odd game of Frisbee.

And in Piccadilly Gardens, people enjoyed a spot of lunch whilst others took a break from their bank holiday shopping trips to enjoy the warm weather.

As for the start of the weekend, the Met Office have said: "Mostly dry into the Easter weekend. Occasionally cloudy during the mornings, but turning brighter through the day, with just a small chance of an afternoon shower. Warm in the sun."

Temperatures on Saturday (April 16) could reach up to 21C in some parts of Greater Manchester, with some sunny spells also expected throughout the day.

By Easter Sunday, cooler temperatures of around 18C to 16C are forecast, with a more cloudy outlook. And on Monday, the weather is expected to return to temperatures of around 13C.
