Plant-based restaurants Vertigo have closed all three of their sites in the city, saying that the effects of the pandemic have now taken their toll.
In a post to Instagram, reduced footfall in the city centre and lack of office trade were also cited as reasons for the closures.
“It is with a heavy heart we have to announce Vertigo is no more,” read a statement on Instagram. “Sadly, we have ceased trading at all of our sites. The pandemic really took its toll on us, and trade is still well behind what it was pre-March 2020.
“And now with significantly increased costs (especially utilities) it is no longer viable for us to operate from our city centre locations which rely heavily on a Monday-Friday office trade.

We want to thank all of our wonderful customers, suppliers and everyone who has supported us over the past few years.”
Owner Michael Jebelli, who was behind the Chez cafe on Whitworth Street, opened the first Vertigo on Cross Street in the Royal Exchange building in 2018, in the former premises of the Maneas Greek restaurant.
"Vertigo is aimed at all people who are conscious about their meat consumption, not necessarily just vegans," he told the M.E.N. "A lot of people are making a conscious effort to reduce how much meat they eat, whether it's for health reasons or environmental reasons.
He quickly followed it barely six months later with a second location, a restaurant and natural wine bar, on First Street, near the Home arts complex.
Then in 2020, a third site, its biggest to date, opened at Media City on Salford Quays.
