Manchester United youngster Alejandro Garnacho praised for skill that 'managers love'

Former Manchester United defender Paul Parker has compared Alejandro Garnacho to former Reds star Ryan Giggs, insisting he sees similarities in his play to when the Welshman was a youngster.

Garnacho, who played a formidable role in helping United win the FA Youth Cup for the first time since 2011 last season, is considered as one of the most exciting prospects within the club's talent pool. He has, despite only being 18, already made five first-team appearances for the Reds and has won his first senior call-up to the Argentina squad.

Capable of playing out wide or through the middle, the youngster, who joined United from Atletico Madrid two years ago, is blessed with trickery and has an exciting aura about him. He loves to run with the ball at his feet and entertain those watching him.

And for former Reds ace Parker, who played for United between 1991 and 1996, Garnacho reminds him of when Giggs was trying to make the grade as a youngster. He has paid particular focus to the way that the Argentine, like Giggs, thrives when trying to beat a man.

"He reminds me of a very young Ryan Giggs when Ryan was 17, he just wants to beat people," Parker told indiabetting. "When he gets his opportunity, he plays with a fire in his belly, wanting to go and beat people

"And there's nothing wrong in wanting to beat people. Managers love that. He doesn't want to do tricks with no purpose or any progression."

Despite his undoubted potential, Garnacho has not had much of a look-in under United manager Erik ten Hag so far this season, being restricted to three substitute appearances, two of which have come in the Europa League. He also only featured once during pre-season, starting the 1-1 draw with Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford at the end of July.

Parker continued: "Garnacho hasn't yet been given an opportunity. He should be given an opportunity with the team in the recent shape, it's a good time to come in.

"There should be an opportunity because the wide players at United haven't proved themselves. Sancho, Rashford, and Martial haven't done it on a consistent basis.

"If you want players who maybe take things on themselves, play off the cuff, improvise, and I think he's got that about him."
