Manchester United XI vs Man City: Starting lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for Premier League today

Going nowhere: Bruno Fernandes is expected to stay at Manchester United this month - (London Standard)

New Manchester United boss Michael Carrick has rung the changes for today’s derby clash with Manchester City.

The Red Devils are at full strength apart from injured defender Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui and the suspended Shea Lacey as they look to close the gap on the top four, with Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo both returning to the team after their respective Africa Cup of Nations exits.

United are currently seventh in the Premier League table with 17 games to go, three points off Liverpool in fourth.

Carrick takes over the reins from Darren Fletcher, who had overseen United’s last two matches since Ruben Amorim’s sacking, the 2-2 draw at Burnley and the home FA Cup defeat by Brighton.

Fletcher reverted to a back four for both matches, departing from Amorim’s 3-4-2-1 vision.

It is expected that Carrick will do similar, playing a 4-2-3-1 shape - just as he did when he took caretaker charge for three games after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was dismissed in November 2021.

Senne Lammens is in goal, while Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire come into the defence as Leny Yoro drops out.

In the engine room, Kobbie Mainoo partners Casemiro in the double pivot.

Bruno Fernandes will captain the side from No10, with Casemiro, Amad and Mbeumo all in as Manuel Ugarte, Mason Mount, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko all move to the bench.

Man Utd XI: Lammens, Dalot, Maguire, Martinez, Shaw, Casemiro, Mainoo, Amad, Fernandes, Dorgu, Mbeumo

Subs: Bayindir, Yoro, Heaven, Malacia, Ugarte, J Fletcher, Mount, Cunha, Sesko

Injured: De Ligt
