Manchester United XI vs Crystal Palace: Weghorst debut - Starting lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest

Wout Weghorst makes his Manchester United debut at Crystal Palace tonight.

Elsewhere, there were fears the Marcus Rashford would have to come off in the derby against Manchester City as he hurt his hip late in the first half, although he carried on to score the winner at Old Trafford.

Both Rashford and Erik ten Hag played down the “knock”. Anthony Martial, meanwhile, did come off at half time in the weekend win and, even if fit, he could find his place under threat from Alejandro Garnacho.

Weghorst is eligible to play at Selhurst Park after completing a loan move from Burnley just before the City game, and he was pictured in training ahead of facing Palace.

“He is a really big element in our pressing and he did that really well before half-time but you also saw he was not capable to go 100 per cent and that is what we need,” Ten Hag said of Martial.

“To avoid him getting injured we took him off but it also had a negative impact on us.”

Jadon Sancho, Axel Tuanzebe and Donny van de Beek are longer-term absentees.

Once again, Ten Hag opts not to keep playing Luke Shaw at centre-back. On an impressive run in the side, the England defender waskeeping Lisandro Martinez out of the XI but now returns to his full-back role.

“With Bruno on the right we defended as usual but in possession he had a role to come between the lines to bring an extra player there and bring hesitation and confusion and he played that role really brilliantly,” he added.

“The rest of the team adapted really well and we had really good breaks by finding the free man and Bruno had an important role in that. He was important in the pressing as well. I don't know if he was man of the match but he was my man of the match.”

Starting Manchester United XI: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Eriksen; Antony, Fernandes, Rashford; Weghorst.
