Manchester United 'willing to pay £76m' for Tammy Abraham and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are set to turn their attentions to Roma striker Tammy Abraham, according to reports. Having signed for the Italians from Chelsea last summer, Abraham has scored 23 goals in all competitions this season.

That form has brought about an England recall and Premier League interest. Arsenal have been heavily linked with the 24-year-old and United view him as an alternative to Benfica starlet Darwin Nunez.

According to Italian publication Corriere dello Sport, key figures in the Old Trafford boardroom are keen on signing Abraham during the summer transfer window. However, there are complications in that respect.

The same report suggests United would be willing to pay around £76m for the Chelsea academy graduate, 12 months on from them bringing in Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo. Roma paid £34m for Abraham last summer but they are not thought to be open to selling.

According to The Telegraph (via Football 365 ), United's attention has shifted to Abraham due to Nunez holding out for a move to a side who can offer him Champions League football. Of course, United still have work to do in that regard.

Elsewhere, speculation over Kalvin Phillips remains high. However, amid interest from Aston Villa and links with United, the Leeds midfielder appears open to signing a new contract.

The Manchester Evening News understands United are set to prioritise midfield signings during the summer and Declan Rice is still seen as target number one. On the basis Paul Pogba leaves at the end of his contract, though, they could welcome further recruits in that position.

Phillips has been mooted as a possible option there. However, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Phillips is eager to agree fresh terms with Leeds - delivering a setback to Villa and United.
