Manchester United want to sign a new No.1 goalkeeper

Manchester United want to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper this summer.

Figures at United have decided a new starting 'keeper is essential amid doubts over David de Gea's future.

The Manchester Evening News revealed last month there was uncertainty over De Gea's No.1 role beyond this season and reported today that figures at United want to "move on" from the Spaniard.

United have scouted Anderlecht goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen, who has generated interest from Brighton.

Exclusive: United figures want to move on from De Ge

Although there is not a standout successor to De Gea, United have been linked with Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa and Andre Onana of Inter Milan.

United manager Erik ten Hag worked with Onana at Ajax but he only played eight times in his last season under Ten Hag as he ran down his contract. Onana and Costa are both contracted to their clubs until 2027.

David Raya wants to leave Brentford but agency sources expect Tottenham to move for the Spain international. Fellow Spaniard Robert Sanchez seems set to leave Brighton after falling out with manager Roberto de Zerbi.

United extended the contracts of 'keepers Tom Heaton and Nathan Bishop last week as Dean Henderson could be sold.

Nottingham Forest informed Henderson of their intention to sign him permanently after they secured their Premier League status, with a fee of £30million touted.

Henderson, 26, played 21 times on loan at Forest last season and is under contract at United until 2025, with the option of an additional year.

The England international has had limited dialogue with Ten Hag, who held a video call with Henderson in January to gauge whether he was receptive to returning to United after Martin Dubravka's loan from Newcastle ended early.
