Talismanic PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo is reportedly suffering "slumbering interest" in his services amid the Eredivisie's desire for a £34million fee.
The 23-year-old forward has been watched closely by a clutch of European football's top clubs and is expected to leave his current side before the window closes. But now ED state demand is currently in short supply for a man who netted 21 goals in all competitions last season.
Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag is understood to be a long-term admirer but any move is tied to Ruud van Nistelrooy 's fortunes in their Champions League blockbuster with Rangers. With the winner punching a £40m ticket straight into the group stage. And a string of British-based scouts will be aiming to take in the action live as Gakpo aims to offer a reminder of his lofty talent ahead of the close of the window. United, in particular, are in desperate need of quality arrivals after their shocking start to the English Premier League season.
Gakpo has been tracked by clubs in Italy, Spain and others in England as he targets the next step in his career. And he is fully aware an eye-catching display will likely play a part in what comes next.
It comes after van Nistelrooy delivered an unequivocal verdict on his star ahead of their mouthwatering showdown with the Europa League finalists. He said: "What I think is so clever about Cody is that he tries to park it all. Of course a lot is happening around Cody at the moment, you can't close off the world. But when I talk to him, it's only about how he can improve as a player at PSV.
"And so I don't talk to him about a possible choice for abroad, because that is not an issue at all. If he asks to speak? Then we will talk about it and then I can give him some advice, but nothing is going on."
